An invoice is not just a random number.

The first thing to understand when hiring a professional service is what lies behind that amount:

The number of years of study and practice required to master photography or video.

The investment in equipment. For a cameraman, this includes, for example:

- A professional camera. When it was released, the Sony FS-700 cost around €7,000, and for that price, you only get a block that is unusable as such. You have to “accessorize” it if you want to use it.

- A lens

- An external monitor

- A sturdy cinema tripod, approx. $1,000

- A high-capacity V-Mount battery, $359, and a flat battery (battery holder that distributes power), $149

- A Blackmagic backup recorder, $300

- Various cables (HDMI, SDI), SD cards, SSD hard drive, etc.

After all that, our camera finally looks like a usable camera.

- Post-production requires a powerful computer and professional editing software (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, etc.).

For a standard funeral video service billed at €975, the following must be deducted:

- 21% VAT

- 6% Smart contribution

- Other miscellaneous expenses.

In the end, each cameraman and editor receives approximately €160 gross, or between €75 and €80 net.
